Applications for affordable rents end in late October.

Applications for affordable rents open until October 31 

During the Rent to Sublet Program, applications for the lottery of affordable rental homes remain open until October 31st.

According to the Government, as you can read in Notícias ao Minuto publication, in this program there are more than a hundred properties available, with rents starting at 325 euros.

The houses are scattered across 18 municipalities in the country, totaling 106 residences: "The competition, under the responsibility of the Housing and Urban Rehabilitation Institute, I.P. (IHRU) will allow houses to be assigned by drawing lots in Albufeira, Almada, Amadora, Lisbon, Loures, Marinha Grande, Odivelas, Oeiras, Sintra, Torres Vedras, Praia da Vitória, Gondomar, Maia, Penacova, Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Matosinhos". 

The homes are intended for own and permanent housing of the families applying, with the burden rate not exceeding 35% with the income.  

Note that these accommodations begin by being rented and then sublet to families or individuals at a lower cost.

To apply for one of the affordable rental homes, you must meet certain requirements, as described by the Government in a statement quoted by Notícias ao Minuto: "Eligible are individuals or families with annual incomes up to the 6th income level of the IRS, with priority given to households with members up to 35 years old, single-parent families, or families with income decreases of more than 20% compared to the income of the three previous months or the same period of the previous year".

You should also know that, if you apply (until October 31) and are accepted in one of the houses with affordable rent, the lease contract lasts for five years, with renewal for equal periods.
